And while maybe to some degree I can even agree with the sentiment that “You’re rich and privileged. Most of us are NOT, so you better do something helpful with all that money you’re sitting on”
The reality is that they are not required to and that statement is similar to the idea that you shouldn’t throw away leftovers because there are people starving elsewhere. Your leftovers aren’t going to those starving people — it’s a catch 22. Yes, others are suffering. Yes, the people complaining may be suffering, but the celebrity donations to major organizations also are not directly benefitting those who are complaining, they are going to the fighting the pandemic and getting food to shelters and getting protective gear and actually going to the sources that need it most.
Sure, the Governator’s video in his jacuzzi and expansive estate or the random “Imagine” IG video of celebrities may be out of touch with regular people’s quarantine reality, but it’s not our business or our problem and it doesn’t affect us! Many of them ARE donating large sums of money. Just say thanks and move on.
