Writing & Judgment: A Poem

They say to write what you know, and

They proclaim that everything is built

On your own experiences.

And then they tear down songwriters

Those who write about people in their lives.

Why do we so love to tear down

Those that we build up?

Why is the fall

More important

More discussed

More dissected

Than the climb?

Social media shines the light

On all your flaws and

Other peoples’ perfect lives.

Comparisons abound

The judgments astound

The most discerning viewer.

Life is not a race

Though it seems,

Social media is not real life

And you are not in

Competition with your friends.

Be you.

Be true.

Love starts within

Let go of judging

Both them and yourself.

Love wins.
