Taskmaster Is Perfection

The idea for Taskmaster was originally created by Alex Horne for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010. It was later developed and picked up by the Dave channel and series 1 premiered in the UK in 2015. It started airing on Channel 4 in 2019.

It is currently in its 16th series (season for the non-British) and has been well-received by the entire world. So much so that it has spawned countless international versions in Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Quebec, Spain, and Sweden (and a failed attempt in the US), plus a Junior Taskmaster spinoff in the UK (which has not premiered yet but was announced in early 2023).

Taskmaster is a simple concept: 5 comedians attempt to complete a bunch of silly (seemingly simple) tasks (like “get the potato in the golf hole but you cannot touch the green” or “blow out this candle from the furthest distance” or “paint a rainbow in pitch dark” or “get this egg downstairs, but you cannot touch the egg”). Then, 8 weeks later, all 5 comedians, Greg Davies the Taskmaster, and Alex Horne (as Greg’s assistant) all meet up in the studio to review the tasks.

The comedians must justify their attempts and the Taskmaster judges them and awards points. Highest number of points each episode wins the episode and a pack of random things from that episode’s Prize Task, and at the end of the…
