Politicians and the Government Don’t Care About You
Distracted, fractured, divisive groups fight against each other, not their oppressors.
It is hard to deny, but difficult to believe.
The truth is that we, as Americans, are taught to believe that our country is the best because we have freedom and a democracy and a very large military.
While the actual reality is very different.
As the Pew Research Center says, “65% [of Americans] say they always or often feel exhausted when thinking about politics.”
Starting point: What are you angry about?
I get into anxiety and anger spirals doom-scrolling and just thinking about how shitty it is that we live in this massive “free” country built on the backs of Indigenous people and immigrants yet we fight and argue and scream about allowing more immigrants in and basic freedoms like affordable healthcare, affordable education, and affordable housing.
Even just affordable food would be great! Inflation is insane right now!
And why are affordable healthcare, education, and housing even hot-button issues? Why wouldn’t our leaders want educated, healthy, housed, and happy constituents?
That’s really what is important to think about — what would they lose by providing Americans with these things?
Control.
Almost everything politicians do seems to be around control. They want to safeguard THEIR money and insurance/healthcare, but they don’t care about yours. They want to pay less taxes but raise yours. They want to sow discontent and arguments to distract us.
The reality is that there are a LOT more Americans than there are American politicians.
And historically, repressed people can rise up against their government to force change, ideally for the better of the people who live there.
