Not at all! It was exciting for me, but I have been writing and editing full-time for almost 3 years now, so it’s not something that happened overnight — it has been a slower build.
I think the absolute key for me has been being willing to try new things and also stay on top of marketing. I have met SO many writers and editors who don’t like or don’t understand marketing and selling themselves, which is a shame. Every company markets and sells, it’s the best way to expand and find new clients.
Hey, $8.43 is a starting point! We all start somewhere! I think I earned a grand total of $25 for my first paid blog post (this was before Medium) for a client. And I regularly make just $7–10 in book royalties. It’s a starting point and you have a ton of room to move up!
