‘Marriage or Mortgage’ Is An Objectively Terrible Concept
Review and rating of the new Netflix Original
First of all and most importantly, it is important to know that the show is NOT a choice between a marriage and a mortgage — it is a choice between a large wedding and buying a home.
A wedding does not equal marriage.
I literally could not get past episode one of this horrendous travesty of a show.
Let’s dive into episode 1
In the first episode, 2 young, beautiful people whose names I do not care enough to remember are engaged, each living separately with their own parents and are 23 and 24 years old.
They’re young, they’re happy, and that’s awesome. Their combined parents are giving them a gift of $30,000 for either a down payment on a house or to pay for the wedding. They have been preapproved for a home loan of $450,000 with 6% down.
They go to these two peppy redheaded women, Sarah Miller and Nichole Holmes, who specialize in wedding planning and real estate, respectively. One shows them houses, the other shows them wedding planning stuff. Both women are nice and knowledgeable.
