Today is my 34th birthday.
I am firmly ensconced in my “mid-thirties.” There is no denying it.
At 33, I could still think of myself as “early thirties.” Not anymore!
On this birthday, more than others in recent history, I am grateful for having a profitable business, my husband and I being safe and healthy, my husband’s career success and job able to be done from home, and a healthy, supportive group of family and friends.
These last few months have been difficult, stressful, anxiety-inducing, and isolated. There have been over 100,000 deaths from COVID in the U.S. alone and I happen to live in the epicenter.
This last week has been horrific and scary with the police activity, protests, curfews, and backlash. The systemic racism in this country is undeniable. The abuse of power by some cops is terrifying. Even with video proof, many cops go unchecked and unpunished.
Some random thoughts on my birthday:
I am so grateful and thankful for my husband and our little family.
I am so thankful for and loved by my family and friends.
I got a new baby kitten 5 days ago and already love him tons. My adult cat is curious and interested and scared of the tiny kitten. I love watching them discover each other.
I am still learning every day to accept the things I cannot change.
I am learning every day to do more, try harder, and fact check.
I continue to be grateful for the small, beautiful moments and things in life.
I try every day to be the change I wish to see in the world.
For my birthday, this year I wish for peace, happiness, small joys, and for everyone to register and go vote.
In my 34th year, I plan to volunteer more, calm down more often, de-stress regularly, learn more, grow my business, and love often.
