I Unironically Love TikTok…& I’m 35

Well, 35 in 3 days.

It was April 2020.

I was bored. I was in lockdown, as was the entire world.

I’d already run out of shows I felt like watching and it felt like none of my favorite content creators were feeling any more creative than I was.

In a moment of boredom after seeing yet another TikTok video reposted on Reddit after endless scrolling, I downloaded it.

At first, I kind of just wanted to see what it was all about. I wasn’t approaching it with sarcasm or annoyance, nor was I particularly excited or thinking it would be more than a passing fancy.

I mostly thought it would be young, attractive people dancing. That was most of my knowledge of it.

Honestly, I was pretty bored of most social media by then.

Remember, I am of the first generation that grew up with the internet and was at the start of social media.

I had a custom song on my MySpace page. I wrote about life and breakups on LiveJournal.

I was a freshman in college when The Facebook (what it was called at the time) was invented and University of Florida was one of the first 10 colleges to be invited to create an account.
