I Have Strong Feelings About Nazis

I am a 31 year old white woman living in Brooklyn, NY.

I am liberal, progressive, and happy to harp on why women’s reproductive choices should be no one’s business but the owner of the vagina. On a day to day basis, I have a good life and am not directly affected altogether too much by what has been happening. This is not to say I do not care.

I care. So much.

I have not tried to keep my feelings on the current administration quiet. In case you are unaware, I am not a fan and I think Trump is mentally ill, a narcissist, a pathological liar looking only for constant validation, on a hair trigger of idiocy, and is actively moving women and LGBTQ right’s backwards.

I have never failed to voice my opinion, though I am generally not aggressive about it. Because failing to speak up is as bad as agreeing.

I am also Jewish.

The fact that we are living in a world where the white supremacists and Nazis feel comfortable enough to go out and parade around barefaced, clothed in polo shirts, (and then get upset when the rest of their lives are affected)and spew their hatred in public says a lot about the times we are living in.

The President of the United States implemented a Muslim ban. The leader of the free world couldn’t find it in himself to say that the Nazis are in the wrong.

We are living in a time of increased terror attacks from within our own nation. We are living in a world where a police officer searched a woman’s vagina for 11 MINUTES ON CAMERA, where cops are being acquitted after being caught on video brutalizing and killing people.

The President of our nation bullied his way into the Oval Office, has gone on vacation almost more than he has “worked,” doesn’t seem to remember what he says from one day to the next — and expects us to forget, too! — and it outright taunting a nuclear-capable country that already hates us.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! Even if you originally voted and supported him — maybe you wanted change, maybe you liked the idea of not having a career politician, fine! — but if you still support Trump after all of this?

Then I don’t want to be with you.

They say “Oh, it’s just politics. Don’t let it ruin your friendships!”

You know what? It’s no longer just politics. The opposite of hate is not love, it is indifference. If you do not have STRONG AS HELL feelings about what is happening in our country right now, that’s a problem.

Do you know what they called Germans who were swept along and just didn’t say their opposing views out loud, just went along with the Third Reich in order to keep the peace? The ones who did neither good nor bad directly to people in WWII? You know what they called those people?

They called them Nazis.

Get the hell up. Speak out, stand up for your neighbors and the inclusion and diversity our great nation has long been known for.

You tell these Nazis that you will not tolerate them.

Speak out.
