I agree with you so much. Editing is super important! I use Grammarly myself and especially like their MS Word extension, which I’ve had some great experience with, since you can change the type of writing category it is, and it will change what it looks for to fit the type (like “research paper” or “creative nonfiction”).

One tip I’ve learned for self-editing is reading it out loud. When you read your own writing, your brain has a tendency to read what you thought you wrote, not always exactly what is on the page. Reading the words out loud forces you to see what is actually there and has helped me catch a lot of small mistakes.
