The most difficult part in the book writing and publishing process has been coming up with a book cover idea and design!
It’s really difficult. Everything I have envisioned about my book involves the writing, the intro, the chapters, the grammar, being a rich and famous best-selling author.
I hadn’t really thought about the cover at all. Luckily, I have a great title, which came from the help of other writers and getting opinions and ideas.
People say you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but let’s get real.
We all do.
When you’re browsing on Amazon or at Barnes & Noble, the cover is first thing that catches your eye!
So, when I had the first discussion with my book cover designer, I really didn’t know what to say. I gave him my website, my business card, ideas of things and colors I like, and he ran with it. He came up with a couple different ideas that I could use as launching points for refining and figuring out what I wanted.
But it was such a shock to me. A book I have been basically living and writing and dreaming of for months, and the second someone said “So, what will it look like?” And it was as if I had never even considered that it had to look like anything!
Coming up with a title was incredibly tough. You want something catchy but not too cliche, something easy to remember, but not something that is already used 1000 times.
At first I was thinking, “How to Be a Writer” but it turns out there are a ton of books out there already called that! I don’t want my book to be one in an ocean of similarly-named books! My book needs to stand out — but not too much!
The title actually came from the help of another writer friend. He was spitballing a bunch of ideas, basically word-vomiting for several minutes, and out popped one that caught my attention.
My book is titled Write. Get Paid. Repeat. A Guide to Being a Successful Freelance Writer.
One thing down, a million more to go! Now I am thinking about my book being either red or teal, my 2 favorite bright colors. Maybe a typewriter? Who knows!
