Great post! This is basically exactly the same steps I took when moving from my own sales and business development career to freelance writing.
It was a complete surprise to me how many writers don’t care about or don’t understand sales and marketing. I think I assumed they would simply because in my head, that is a huge part of creating and building a business — but many I know look down on sales! Preposterous!
Like you, I took to LinkedIn, cold reach outs, and networking as ways to find client and avoided the content mills, which I do not like.
